The group “Stop AAPI Hate” has been documenting anti-asian discrimination and has “1,500 instances of harassment against Asian Americans in a one-month period since mid-March.” Most people know that this number should probably be higher, but many of the victims of harassment aren’t pressing charges or not telling anyone about their experience. A recent Ipsos survey shows that “More than 30 percent of Americans have witnessed someone blaming Asian people for the coronavirus pandemic”. Everyone is scared, and it’s not unusual for people to direct their hate in inappropriate places when they’re scared. This is not okay. It’s not fine.

Daijoubu Pop Up has always kept the 'Daijoubu" or “It’s Fine” tagline at the center of our work. The phrase can be taken literally as "It’ll be ok" or in a tongue-in-cheek sarcastic way, like, "Its fine...(but really its not fine)." What is happening now is undeniably, not fine.

These stickers are here to let the world around us know that racist behavior is not okay. It’s to create a solidarity with the API community, so that Asian-Americans don’t feel alone and abandoned.
